Owen Wilson and Jackie Chan have a great chemistry, and this is one of their best performances together. It's also great to see a modern-day animated movie in which both the main characters are voiced by the same person. It's very rare, but it worked here. Lucy Liu also has a couple of good scenes, and I liked her in 'G.I. Jane'. Her character here is Chinese and the actress is American, but the character doesn't really change much, so I found it a little odd. I also like the fact that the women are allowed to be tough without looking too bad or scary.
I'd been wanting to see 'Shanghai Noon' for a while, and was a little surprised that the studio had released it just a few weeks after I did. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did, but hey, I loved it.
The premise of this film is that two brothers from rural England and their very dorky friend come to Shanghai and become involved in a feud between the rival tongs. It's essentially a 'Fight Club' film. There are, thankfully, no fights, but there are a lot of other cool action sequences, with a fair amount of comedy thrown in. A lot of the comedy is actually quite witty and sharp (not that you'd expect much from Jackie Chan). The script is just clever enough to keep me on my toes, and even though it's a bit contrived, it's at least a little charming.
Jackie Chan returns with a comedy in Shanghai Noon. This is a film that is based around a plot that is a bit of a fiddle, however, this isn't a film that I thought I would hate.
